Center for Clinical and Translational Science

Welcome to The Rockefeller University Bleeding History Phenotyping System (RUBHPS) and the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis Bleeding Assessment Tool (ISTH-BAT). Both systems are dedicated to the collection, curation and dissemination of data about bleeding phenotypes. Both systems are also backed by a Bleeding History Ontology, which encodes information about all bleeding symptoms in an electronic format that facilitates standardization and analysis. You are encouraged to review the ontology, which has been posted on the National Center for Biomedical Ontology (NCBO) website, and make recommendations for additions or modifications.

Each system has:

  • A web-based data collection instrument termed a phenotyping recording instrument that allows the investigator to administer a bleeding history questionnaire from any computer with Internet access.
  • A web-based instrument for recording laboratory results pertaining to hemostasis, PRI Labs.
  • A web-accessible database designated as a data repository (RUBHPSR and ISTH-BATR) that can be queried using our data representation and query utilities.
If you are an investigator interested in evaluating our software for use in your studies, please follow the "Documentation" link or email Yupu Liang at If you are already a registered investigator, please click the appropriate "Phenotype Recording Instrument" link in order to administer a questionnaire, or click the "Data Representation and Queries" link to view or query the database of bleeding phenotypes.
